I have a 10/100 Mbps ethernet switch which is claimed to not function properly.
So is et up a LAN using the switch, issgned IP address to 2 computer, connected them to the swtich and started pinging one computer from the other.
So, now , after pinging PC1 from PC2, all the ports on the switch work, i get " reply from (IP Adress) " in the dos prompt window.
But when i reverse it .. as in .. ping PC2 from PC1 . it says " request timed out " .
From what i understand it is possible that the Rx of the prt might not be working, but it can send data. n hence " request timed out and 4 packets sent but 0 packets received" ...
But so, i interchanged the LAN cables and connected them to the same ports.. so now again when i ping PC1 to PC2 . when it should not work because i interhcanged the cables so the computer are connected to interchanged ports , it works and i get reply.
But again pinging PC2 to PC1, it says " request timed out "
Can anyone tell me how to test the switch further.... is the switch at fault in the first place ??
