Answer Wiki:
Hi, You can backup to disk by doing a save to a save file (specify *SAVF as the device on your save command). You'll need to create the save file first by using the CRTSAVF command. Regards, Martin Gilbert. Hello, If you are using BRMS to backup your servers, there is an option on the policy to save to savf instead of tape. TPinky From C007 :- I think the best thing you can do is to backup these to Ultrium Tape. First, Creat library and save file CRTLIB CRTSAVF Then Save library Device: *savf Then Save this library to tape drive Device: tap01 Hi, To C007, please don't wipe other people's answers out. They're just as valid as yours. Thanks, Martin Gilbert.

Don’t forget virtual tape libraries.

I’m just rolling this out and if you got the disk space for save files then you’ve got room for a VTL.

I did the virtual optical device thing with image catalogs when upgrading the OS on three systems here. Was pretty slick and worked well.

Any feeling on speed of saving to a virtual tape library vs saving to save files? We have four schemas that we save while active to save files and then backup the save files to tape. It’s probably 30 minutes for the save to save files (570 with a 2 way processor).

Mike
