How to setup access to a .pst for someone who is no longer here

I'm trying to remove a user but i would like to save their email.pst and access it if/when needed.  What is the best procedure to handle this?

Software/Hardware used:
Microsoft Exchange 2003

If you use outlook to export their mailbox to a .pst file you can save it wherever you wish. You can also use exmerge on the exchange server to export their mailbox, but if you use outlook 2003 instead you will not have a limit to the size as it will be in unicode.

    Once i export to the .pst and remove the profile, i would need to remember the password when i access the .pst again - I thought... Is this the case? THANKS! ST

    you won't need to know/remember a password unless a password was specifically assigned to the .pst file.

    SO... if i export to A.pst w/o password assigned, any user can access A.pst thru their outlook? ST

    Once the mailbox is saved to a PST, any user can import it. I'd recommend giving away a COPY of the PST file, keep the original for electronic discovery/legal purposes.
