How to set up a VPN; Router and firewall rules to allow PPTP access
I am trying to setup a VPN connection at my temple. My temple computer will receive VPN connections so users can work from their homes and connect to Temple's computer to perform accounting and membership maintenance.
I have a cable modem, Trendnet Router TEW-452BRP and Vista Ultimate. The Vista machine is already setup for Incoming Connection.
I am having trouble with the following step: "However in order for the VPN Client to be able to communicate with it, the router/firewall (both hardware and software) need to be configured to pass PPTP traffic. Generally speaking, you need to create a rule in your firewall associated to the static IP address of the VPN Host system which opens up TCP Port 1723."
How do I do this step? My router’s connection type is currently setup as DHCP Client. Do I select "PPTP" as connection type?

You need to create rules in the firewall as well as router. Some of these can be through the web interface of the appliance. You can enable PPTP pass-through in your Trendnet.

You probably will not have a static IP address from your provider unless you are paying for it. So, you will need to register for a <a href="http://www.dyndns.com/">dynamic DNS record</a> so remote users can "find" your server.
