How to set up a VPN; Router and firewall rules to allow PPTP access
I am trying to setup a VPN connection at my temple. My temple computer will receive VPN connections so users can work from their homes and connect to Temple's computer to perform accounting and membership maintenance. I have a cable modem, Trendnet Router TEW-452BRP and Vista Ultimate. The Vista machine is already setup for Incoming Connection. I am having trouble with the following step: "However in order for the VPN Client to be able to communicate with it, the router/firewall (both hardware and software) need to be configured to pass PPTP traffic. Generally speaking, you need to create a rule in your firewall associated to the static IP address of the VPN Host system which opens up TCP Port 1723." How do I do this step? My router’s connection type is currently setup as DHCP Client. Do I select "PPTP" as connection type?

Answer Wiki:
You need to create rules in the firewall as well as router. Some of these can be through the web interface of the appliance. You can enable PPTP pass-through in your Trendnet. Hope this helps. ====================== You probably will not have a static IP address from your provider unless you are paying for it. So, you will need to register for a dynamic DNS record so remote users can "find" your server. In the IT trenches?
