Hi rcm4bsc , here is a copy of our notes for configuring the scheduel on the hmc.

We’ve been running this for 3 years now and have had no problems, just remember that the tape must be varied off before it can be moved and you need to know the bus and slot numbers for the hardware.
The occaisional error we get is usually caused by one of the components not being moved for some reason and causes the backup to fail.

Conifgure SCHEDULE to move Tape between partitions

NB. This must be re-entered after each time the HMC is shut down.

There are 6 repeating schedules to be set up as there are 3 devices which require to be moved from partitonA to partitionB & then back again.

1. Expand “localhost.localdomain”
2. Expand “HMC Management”
3. Click “HMC Configuration”
4. Click “Schedule Operations”
5. Select required partition the Tape is moving from and click “ok”.
6. Click “Options”
 Click ”new”
7. Select “Dynamic Reconfiguration” and click “ok”
8. Set date to the “next day the schedule will run”.
9. Set time as follows depending on the direction of the move & the iteration

partitionA to partitionB -> 00.20AM, 00.25AM, 00.30AM
partitionB to partitionA -> 02.30AM, 02.35AM, 02.40AM

10. Set “TIME WINDOW” => “10 MIN”.
11. Click the “Repeat” tab
12. Select “SET UP a REPEAT SCHEDULE OPERATION”
13. Select required days for schedule, currently TUESDAY thru’ SATURDAY
14. Tick “infinite repetitions”
15. Click “OPTIONS” Tab
16. Select “resource” => “I/0”
17. Select “Operation” => “Move to” (leave default Partition!)
18. Specify the I/0 adapter => select “Bus 2, Slot C1” from the list
19. Click save
20. Repeat steps 6 – 18. Select in Step 17 “Bus 2, Slot C2”
21. Repeat steps 6 – 18. Select in Step 17 “Bus 2, Slot C4”
22. Repeat Steps 5 – 21 selecting the other partition, to move the tape back.

Hi,

Just a note to mention.

When you reboot your HMC for any reason you should not lose any of your IOP move schedule. I have automated IOP moves running for the last 2 years and have shut down the HMC several times without losing any configuration. You may want to check to ensure your HMC is at the latest Upgrade/Update level.
