Hi, Does anyone know how to retrieve the current version, release and model number of the AS400 box you are working on. We can view this information in spool files, but I want to retrieve this information through both CL and RPG program. Regards Shruti.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Hi,

You should be able to find it using the RTVOBJD command :-

RTVOBJD OBJ(QCMD) OBJTYPE(*PGM) SYSLVL(&SYSLVL)

Regards,

Martin Gilbert.

Hi Martin, I have one doubt in it, by issuing this command we are getting the AS400 version, release and model number in &SYSLVL variable, when QCMD object was created in the AS400 system. So in every release upgrade do we recompile the IBM supplied APIs?

Hi Shruti, Though you could use the QCMD program but this is not the IBM supported approach. The Official IBM supported approach is to use the QSZRTVPR API. You can find how to use this API when you google, but please find link below a link from one of the forums. http://www.code400.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1718

Hi, You don't need to recompile anything for this. When you install a new release the version of QCMD is updated by the upgrade. Regards, Martin Gilbert.
