Are you sure it is his contacts? Or is what he lost the auto-fill address, meaning when he started to enter an email, it would offer to fill the email address. I have had customers who mistook the NK2 file as a contact file. So, when they moved from one computer to another, their ‘contacts’ were lost. They never had contacts, but an NK2 file.
If it is truely contacts, then Moto is spot on, and I usually the archive.pst will not have the contacts.
Best of luck

You do not say if this is an exchange account. If it is you will be able to do a restore from your backups and get his contacts back that way. The process required depends on what version of Exchange you are using, if you are indeed using Exchange. Please provide more details. Thanks!

Indeed two things need to be answered:
- is it the outlook cache he is missing +> restore the file from an old profile
- is it contacts and exchange => restore the exchange mailbox and use Exchange system admin to join the old with the new mailbox.
