Have never seen that type of extension before.  Went to a couple of security sites and also did a Google search, this is a new one and, sorry to say this, but, that does not look too good for you.  Not too sure what can be done about this.  Hope that a backup was done on the files in question.

Are all the extensions the same? Have you tried to rename it back and open the file? (make a copy first in case the file becomes unusable). I would run a virus scan to make sure you do not have an application corrupting your files.

There  are various causes  of PDF file corruption  such as Sudden Power failure, Virus attack, Improper downloading, System malfunction, Incorrect creation procedure, etc. According to your question, I would like to say that first you should check your Adobe Acrobat version either it is updated or not. If it is not updated, then please update it because sometimes it happens that your prior version of Adobe Reader does not support subsequent editions of PDF files.

With the help of mention below steps, one can easily repair their corrupted files-

Steps to repair corrupt PDF file: -

    Step 1: Launch the program.

Step 2: Firstly, check the program is up to date or not.

Step 3: Now, click to help option-> then go to option Check for updates.

Step 4: A small window will appear with a text detail, you can check the program setup is up to date  or not.  If there are awaiting updates, then proceed and install them.

Probably the files are virus affected. It is better to run a scanner (like MWAV) in safe mode and make sure there was no virus in your system. After that, yes, MS Office has a built-in repair system, which you can try to bring back the files in earlier stage. And for pdf files Adobe reader has built-in repair utility, you can try that.

Definitely sounds like a virus, maybe even ransom ware. Are any other file type affected like images? Are there any other issues with the way the OS is working? I can never stress this enough but if a file it that important, back it up..Thumb drives are so cheap today you can back up a good portion of you system to just one. I have seen 128gig drives on sale for about $45.00 US.

You could also try renaming one of the files back to the correct extension and try to repair it

    Step 1: Repair document

    1. In Word, click File on the Ribbon, and then click Open.
    2. In the Open dialog box, click to highlight your Word document.
    3. Click the arrow on the Open button, and then click Open and Repair.
