How to reduce Ethernet port initialization delay

I am working on an Ethernet switch on which I have full control on internal register of internal Ethernet matrix.

After having deactivated auto negociation, VLAN trunking, link aggregation and STP, there is still a delay between 1 and 2 seconds before Ethernet port becomes operational just after physical connection.

Is there a way to reduce this startup delay ?

Thanks

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If no other switches are going to be placed on a port and only a single client end device, then the following statement can improve link connection establishment speed. This is assuming a Cisco switch. If not a Cisco switch, please provide more details about your environment.

spanning-tree portfast

See this Cisco tech note for more details on spanning-tree portfast:
Spanning-tree PortFast causes a port to enter the spanning-tree forwarding state immediately, bypassing the listening and learning states. You can use PortFast on switch ports connected to a single workstation or server to allow those devices to connect to the network immediately, instead of waiting for the port to transition from the listening and learning states to the forwarding state.

My device is not a Cisco switch but a product designed by my company. It is based on a Marvell 88E6095 Ethernet matrix. STP feature is not activated.

If it is designed and engineered by your company, why are you coming to this forum for assistance?

I don't think you transgressed any rule, but I was also wondering how could we know more about a product your company designs than you. Maybe we misunderstood your question, and you were looking for help on how to design a device that does not have that startup delay...

Ok, I did not understood the question. In fact, my hope is that maybe someone knows the origin of those 2 seconds delay at start up. From my first investigation, it seems that it is more or less a general situation on the switch I have tested : After having deactivated all features related to redundancy or autonegociation and so on, D Link and 3COM managed switch I have tested present the same behaviour regarding the 2 seconds delay at start up. Maybe it is something directly linked to the hardware layer, or even something standardized ?
