Is it possible to be placed first in a search engine without paying them directly?

Its possible. But, You would need to do real hard work for this.

  1. Your site needs frequent updates.
  2. Keywords/Labels should be mentioned for your content.
  3. Your content should be up to date.
  4. You should have large number of visitors to your site (Maybe you would need to advertise your site through networking sites/blogs that are related to your content.

    1. You create your site with the latest standards.
    2. If possible, all content you must be labeled because search engines react to them.
    3. Your website should have many visitors.
