    This is unfortunately one of those areas of security that you have to deal with when it hits. You can prepare somewhat in advance. It pays to have an incident response plan (here's a template: http://www.acunetix.com/blog/web-security-zone/incident-response-plan-template) and it pays to know what technology or service you're going to put in place before, during, or after a DoS attack.
