In Excel , when we try Insert->Symbol there appears a dialog box where it has all the funny symbols and one of our users requested a symbol which has a A and a bar on top of it(Latin Capital letter A with Macron) on iSeries which i fancied is not possible . Please could some one suggest if its possible to insert/ copy, paste(which i've tried) to AS400. Thanks in advance

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Hi,

You can try using iSeries Acces for Windows (Client Access) “Keyboard Function” (Edit->Preferences->Keyboard) and assign your(s) character to a key(s).

Though I did not make an exhaustive search, the Latin capital letter A with macron does not appear to be in any of the EBCDIC CCSIDs that came to mind (Latin-2 and Cyrillic based). The character is however supported by i using Unicode CCSIDs (UCS2, UTF-8, UTF-16). Depending on how/where you need to store the Ā, support is certainly possible (though getting your user to use a more standard Latin character (À,Á,Â,Ã,Ä,Å,Ą) will be much easier on you -- depending on the CCSID your user runs with).
