You are going to need that router right after your demarc or modem, you want it to be the last thing anything sees going out and the first coming in. now as for model, there are a multitude of routers out there that could support your network. you could even possibly go with a small home linksys router then a switch just after that going into the network. Although looking at availabilty for expansion and bandwidth capabilities, I wouldnt go that route, but it would be possible.
