Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I would first format the hard drive to wipe the existing system. You will end up with a huge mess otherwise, by the sounds of it. This should be an option when booting from your XP OS CD.

Try to go to dell site and under support, entry your service tag and download any driver need for the hard driver. Ensure that you choose Windows XP OS. Once you have the driver, during installation of Windows XP, (dos part) enter can hit f6(i think) and enter driver for you hard drive. That should take care of your problem. I do not suggest to do anything to youi bios. Hope that works for you. cg

For MahamadUsman. This is a problem I have come across several times. The reason for this error in my case was the hard drive was failing, it had nothing to do with the type of OS you are trying to install. As Chazbrown suggests, format the drive. This will confirm the status of the disk, marking any bad sectors in the FAT. If you do procede with installing on this drive, I would still be careful what you put on this drive, as I have learnt the hard way, back up your data regularly, in case it is about to fail. As for downloading the drivers, they should be already included in the generic drivers on the installation disc.
