I realize that there are a number of commercial programs that claim to be able to do this conversion. Since this is for a one time individual use I was hoping to find something more affordable. Perhaps you can point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Load the .ost file from Outlook by using the method in this article: Move an offline Outlook Data File (.ost)

Export the items to a .pst file using the methods in this article: Export Outlook items to an Outlook Data File (.pst)

It might help you!

In general, if you can open the .OST file with Outlook in offline mode, it's possible to get the .OST data into a .PST file format.

.OST files are intended as Exchange files, and there is some security involved that ties the file to an Exchange profile. You must be able to access the .OST file using the Exchange profile. This helps to prevent someone from accessing someone else's .OST data.

    • Open Microsoft Outlook.
    • Click the File menu.
    • Choose the Import and Export Wizard or press 't'.
    • Click the Export to a file option from the list >>Next.
    • Select Personal File Folder (.pst) >>Next.
    • Choose the Items to be exported or Click on parent root and check the Include subfolders option.
    • Browse and choose the target folder to save the items.
    • Finish.

The above method is based on Microsoft Office 2003 Professional Edition. Options may vary in Microsoft Office other versions.
