How to connect to vmware workstation 6.5 guests over VNC over internet
Ok, this seems like it should be simple right. I have a server running ubuntu 9.04 and I can VNC into it over the local domain, local ip, and even over the internet using the static ip address. On this server I also have vmware workstation 6.5 running with several VMs. I have remote desktop viewing enabled, ports set and it works like a champ over local domain and local IP. The second I try to VNC into a VM over the Internet using the static ip address I can't seem to get much of anything. What am I missing. I don't care about SSH yet as I'm just working on the proof of concept. I'll worry about security once it's actually possible to log in remotely.

Answer Wiki:
To access this VNC connection over the internet, you must specify the port in addition to the IP address and ensure that the port is addressable through your router/firewall. If VNC is using port 5900 and your public IP address is 69.45.1.56. You would specify 69.45.1.56:5900. If connecting with VNC, it should know the port and in this case you do not have port 5900 opened in your firewall. If you use a linksys router this is specified in the applications settings. Good luck!

Do you have that port forwarded from your router to your internal IP?
