I've started doing some early designs around Cisco Nexus 5020 FCoE routers and Qlogic CNA adapters.

the biggest issue now is storage support. You still need to break out your MDS SAN switches to provide direct connectivity to non-native FCoE storage targets which adds an additional layer of complexity. Couple that with the relative expense of CNAs (~$2500.00) and the Nexus 5020 (~$105,000.00 LIST), you're looking at a very expensive "transitional" piece of equipment. Couple that with the need for redundancy and you're doubling your infrastructure costs as an early adopter.

just my thoughts.

cheers,

Dave Graham
