 How long does upgrade take
Planning stages of going fomr V5R2 to V5R3, on a 810 box. Not counting the time for a full system save before starting, does anyone know how long the upgrade should take? We're a hospital and need to keep downtime to a minimal.

Answer Wiki:
It's really going to depend on the number of CPUs and the amount of Main Memory you have too. You can imagine it's not going to be short. I think I remember on a 1 CPU 16 GB Power5 box the upgrade took about 3-4 hours total using Virtual CDs. Once I used virtual CDs I will never load them again and wait. I would plan for 6 hours but think you will be well under that.

I agree. The upgrade plus installing CUM & Group PTF’s should take 4-6 hours, if all goes well. Using optical images is the only way to go. It is faster and you know ahead of time that the CD’s are readable.
