How can I remove a hard disk from an AS/400 server model 800?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Is this a decommissioned system? If so, lift the little blue handle and pull. If the system is active, I would suggest that you IPL to DST and take the option to Remove disk from ASP. If the number of disk you remove doesn’t leave you enough space for the data on the system the remove will fail and you may crash your system and have to reload.

Why do you need to remove it? Are you replacing it with another drive. DO you have RAID?

Is it a failed disk? Is it under RAID protection?
If not, make sure you first exclude the disk in your parity protection and in the ASP using DST. Then, you can now remove the disk. Go to SST. Look for hardware management option. Then Go to concurrent maintenance and give the details needed. Disk's resource name, position and so on. Make sure to indicate that you will remove that disk. Then a light from the disk will blink. Make sure you can remove the disk before the light out.
