How does one start to do software testing?
I work for a Web based Lims (Laboratory Information Management Systems) company (vendor) that supplies this product (LabLynx ELab Lims) to different clients.
[strong]We now have the requirement to test software developers' fixes[/strong] that come from solving problems installing the ELab Lims, from development to test and then to production for use in a lab.
My problem is, I have never done testing and need expert advice and guidance in getting the process started and going, giving the client a product free from errors and glitches, and managing this so that it does not interfere with the workflow process, that is, providing the client efficient problem solving and testing procedures that do not disrupt connectivity and production.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

None for testing, databases are either SQL/SQL Server or Oracle, C sharp for other apps, aip for server

When I have testers test softwares, we call it beta testing and the idea is to have beta testers try to break the soft ware by just using it, and trying things to see how it handles or responds to certain clicks or trials. If something shows up that should not show up, we try to duplicate this error so we can fix it within the coding itself. When testing is done with no errors we then can call that a release of version ?. Hope this helps.

If LabLynx doesn’t already have strict testing protocols in place, it should be concerned. You should exhaust all possibilities of inquiring within your department before looking for outside guidance. Your employer markets into some highly regulated industries. It might not be a good choice to post in a public forum that testing isn’t well covered.

This is Rjlims who wrote this question.
After further inquiring within our own house, Lablynx does have stricit testing protocols in place.
These in-house procedures will now help me get started with testing.
