we have several ibm bladecenters H with a few hundred hosts across the blades. i know that on stand alone servers, VMs on the same vswitch don't have to send network traffic out to a physical switch to pass data back and forth, it goes through the vswitch to the other VM, but how does data move from one VM on one blade to another VM on a different blade BUT within the same bladecenter H? does the data have to go out to an external physical switch or does is stay within the bladecenter?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

If the blade center has its own network switch built in (which I don’t think it does) the data would not need to leave the blade center.

If the blade center does not have its own network switch the data will need to leave the blade center and go to the network switch which would then send it back to the blade center..
