Live Migration moves the VM without downtime, essentially perserving the current system state. It's for planned downtime only. VM failover is the automatic transfer of the VM from one server to another, if the primary server actually does down. The system state is NOT perserved, because it is lost when the primary server goes down. it does, however, automatically restart the Vm on the secondary servers in the cluster.
