Answer Wiki:
Sure! You can go into the folder containing your archive and re-name the existing one. Make sure you have closed the archive folder in outlook first. Right-click it on your folder list and choose "close folder" . Then close Outlook, otherwise when you try to re-name the archive file it will tell you it is in use by another program. After you re-name the file the next time outlook archives it will create a new one. The only draw-back is when you open both archived files on your folder list they will both show under a name of "archive" so it gets tricky keeping track of which archive folder is which. Once you have a new archive folder you can open both and move mail from the larger one to the smaller one if you wish by dragging and dropping.

In Notes, you can create another archive the same way you created the first archive that you want to split. Open the archive, create a new archive via the settings, giving it a different name than the original archive and enable the archive. In your current archive, select the documents you want to split out of it and choose to archive by selected documents. //Dan

@ Dvnobles – how can I enable archiving within an archive?

In a Notes (mail file) archive, you can’t use the typical Actions – Archive – settings ….you have to do a File – database – properties of your archive, click the Archive button and then set the archive criteria from there.

Once you are in the DB you can set the Archve to split as before by folder by data etc.

Just remember if this is on a server it will not run untill cam caompact -a is run against the DB.

This question is about Lotus Notes Archiving, but the answer refers to MS Outlook Archives!!!

In Notes 8, you can Open your existing Archive, go to Actions, Archive, Create Criteria. In this dialog, you can set the name of the file and location of your new archive, create a selection criteria and enable it. Then you go to Actions, Archive, Archive Now to use the recently created criteria. This will preserve your old archive’s folder structure.
From there, you can select further documents that you’d like to archive (and were not included in your Criteria), and drag them to your new archive.
