Answer Wiki:
That depends on how you had it set up. If you were using a POP3 setup and downloaded everything from an internet mail account then all the messages at least are gone. But if your contacts are in the mail account you are downloading from they will still be there I would think. There is an option when you set up your mail account in a POP3 setting to "leave a copy on the server" and in that case then your mail will still be on the internet account, but if you did not select that, then they are gone. Everything in the local .pst is lost if your computer "guru" did not save it, so go to the internet account and see what is there. If you are not using a POP3 account setup then please give the details of how you have your outlook configured. Thanks. Depending on the value you place of what's inside the .pst files, you could seek the assistance of a hard disk disaster recovery company that maybe able to help, but be prepared to spend no less than six to seven hundred dollars.

“I had some work done on my hard drive”.
What work was done to the hard drive, we need a bit more info to decide if pursuing a repair of your file is possible.

I had a software failure and the hard drive was removed to fix same. The techno told me he saved information from word etc, which he did, but could not help with e-mail folders and contacts because it was different software or data base. Anything you can do to help me with this would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like he just didn’t want to do the work, it’s simple enough to save the pst file in your profile in windows. Sorry you lost that. There really is no way to recover it if it is gone. Your only resource now is what you have on the email provider’s server. Have you logged into the web and accessed that to see waht is there?

I think the guy has formatted your hard disk without taking your backup, just confirm from him if he had taken any backup and if had taken, then where has he kept that. Otherwise try searching *.pst in your harddisk, he might have kept is somewhere in other drive. But ultimately if it is gone, then there is no way of getting your messages, contacts and all relevant data.
