How do I process Horizontal Subfiles in a particular order?

I have a data entry screen for serial numbers. Each serial number is 10 characters in length. Therefore I created a horizontal subfile using SFLLIN. This puts spaces between the records equally. The result is that I have X number of columns. When I enter the data, the entry is from left to right. But when I read the data, it is from top to bottom – first row, then second row,… Is there a way to have the program (RPGLE) to process these records in the same sequence as when entered?

Hi Rick,

Just an idea is to use CHAIN with a RRN to read the file like that :

C Eval RRN = 1
C RRN Chain SFL
C DOW %Found()
C …..
C …..
C Eval RRN += NbrOfLinesInSFL
C RRN Chain SFL
C EndDo

It’s supposing that you are using SFLRNA.

Wilson
