How do I network four buildings together using WLAN,with a distance of 1km between each other. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

It definitely can be done using wireless but speaking from personal experience and not knowing any specifics of the intended install, fiber would also something to look into. The initial outlay is higher but the bandwidth, reliability and security advantages will make it up for it in the long run.

    My experience is with industrial facility networks, where copper and fiber have been the norm for decades. The initial installation cost has always been significant, and many are now looking closely at wireless as a way to avoid that cost. However, as we research the wireless technology, it seems that security is still a significant weakness, with a few years before it will likely improve to the point of being acceptable to sensitive installations, such as public water and to a lesser degree, wastewater treatment plants. We must also factor in the cost of administering the wirelesss network, which at this time appears to be a fairly continous operation. With wire or fiber, the physical part of the network is very low maintenance. I do not see a mass conversion to wireless LANs happening anytime soon.
