How do I configure Exchange Server to use .net email when the internal domain is .com?
My Internal domain uses a simple .com domain name, but I have had to use a different email domain (.net). This is because when the domain was setup with the .com years ago and when I went to register it the .com domain name it had been taken. So I had to registered a .net domain to use for email. I presently have my online service provider/domain registering company forward 10 email addresses to hotmail accounts. I think I just have to get them to forward the .net email to my Exchange Server, but I don?t know how to configure the exchange server to use the .net email domain, when the Exchange Server is on the .com domain.
So, how do you configure a 2007 Exchange Server for a .net email system, when it is on a .com domain?

I haven't played with 2007 yet, but it is probably similar to 03 and 2k. In ESM goto the properties of recipient|recipient policies|default policy. Under the email addresses tab add a new smtp of @domainname.net, keeping the box checked for responsible of all mail delivery and click OK. Check the box next to the new domain and click OK. Click yes to update recipient addresses.
The nav tree for ESM may be different for 07, but this should point you in the right direction.

On a side note, I didn’t address your DNS settings since your direct question only related to the Exchange setup. To avoid having your ISP forward the emails, you will need to have MX and A records set up so that email for your domain will be routed directly to your server.
I am not sure where you are talking about, or even if I can get to a similar place. It is very difficult to understand this 2007 server. Its as if Microsoft have made up words and meanings to subheadings, then duplicated them. It does looks different to 2003.

Looks like you need to go to Orginization Configuration and then to Hub Transport to find the newly named “Email Address Policies”. Follow the directions of my previous post after selecting properties on the default policy.
I read the comments on the link you gave me (the one that shows 2003 & 2007 together). Nonesense! The NEW and Improved MMC is NOT an improvement, it is FAR from intuitive, it is strange nonsensical gibber for the most part. Everything is in the wrong place – how is that handy?
Anyway, I appreciate that these are not your comments, and thanks for the advice, your a life line at the minute. I will give it a go tomorrow – crunch day for me! Just done a 9am to 2am Shift, so not in the best form – not fit to talk either!
