TCP destination port 23 must be open on the client firewall to access a host using telnet unless the system is configured to use a different port. To telnet to a router with address 10.44.20.2 issue the command telnet 10.44.20.2. Are you receiving any errors? Can anyone else telnet to this destination host?
Telnet must also be enabled on the router. This can be done using the following:
line vty 0 4
Also make sure the router has a reachable IP address. Can you ping the router?
