My initial thoughts are that you’re licensing info would still be lost.

The numbers that the clearing house usually want can be found in the Terminal Services Licensing mmc. Did you look in there for agreement numbers or the like?

I’m in a delima now. i activated a new TS lic on a new server. I called in to Clearing house to deactivate the old server & transfer my cals to the new and they wanted my lic agreement / information number. i told them i have my server id but they wanted some other number. I have no such thing. i called support but they are closed!

With this aside… I’m wondering what would happen if i did not deactivate the lic server, changed name & IP then create my new TS with the same name/IP. do you know what might happen? i would no longer have access to my old server.

The license request is handled by the terminal server itself so, you don’t have to do anything to your clients as far as telling them where the license server is. Also, the terminal server SHOULD be able to find the license server without you having to do anything.

I’m planning to move the terminal server this weekend but i was just wondering if i can have the license server on a non terminal server server???
If this is done then how does my workstations get registered on the lic server and then connect to the terminal server?

Basically you have to re-register your CAL’s. It took me a lot less time to call, tell them I was replacing a TS License server, and reactivate my license than it did to research how to do it. Hate it when that happens.

Have you tried to copy the file & folder they mention on teh backup and restoring to another server?
i guess i have to look for more but doesnt look promissig.
