Are you familiar with the HMC and do you have access to it.

We need to know which version of HMC you are running. There is a difference between V6.x.x vs. V7.x.x

Consider the HMC the center console for multiple systems

If you just want to power down the LPAR, just use PWRDWNSYS with the parameters you want.

To power it up (not restart), use the HMV and select "Activate"

If you are talking about an LPAR on an older machine like model 825 and older then the LPAR management is done through System Service Tools. You need to from the primary partition log into SST with a valid SST/DST user profile and password and then option 5 Work with Partitions and then option 2 for Partition Status. There you can get the control panel for each LPAR to work with the same as if you were at the front panel. The front panel on these older machines are just for the primary LPAR.

There is no HMC connection for any machine listed at POWER4 and lower so you have to work from the primary partition.

Guys no offence but I have seen some simple questions from some people which is apparent to me don’t want to do any reading. I believe the information that your looking for is at the IBM website under LPAR information.
