I've installed the most recent version and in now several work apps, I get frequent security warning windows that the app requires an earlier version. Is there any way of disabling that or do I have to disable the most recent version? On Vista, BTW.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I was able to find this for unsigned applets, I think it might be the right direction. Also I think the developer can program the Java applet to force a certain version for compatibility reasons, or disable the “required version” option.

Thanks! May just have to disable current version or uninstall. What a pain!

The only suggestion I've been able to find is to disable earlier versions of Java, which wasn't much help, given that I need the apps and the apps need the earlier versions.

Had a similar problem and had to roll back Java for work apps and then manually remove the newer version through add/remove programs.
