Answer Wiki:
You do this by modifying the properties of the address book in Outlook. Go to toolsemail accounts, then select the option for "View or change existing directorie or address books". Select change on the current address book and you'll see your options. ESP

Check this setting: in AD, right click on a username. Go to Properties, the General tab, and look for the box labeled “Display name.” If it is showing the user as “name familyname” just retype it to show “familyname, name.”

If you already have that correctly entered, in a user’s Outlook, go to Tools, E-mail accounts, View or change existing directories or address books, Next, highlight Outlook Address Book, and click the Change button. The next screen will give you a choice to: Show names by: “First Last (John Smith)” -this will be selected by default-or “File As (Smith, John)”. Choose the second option, then Close, Finish. I don’t know if there’s a way in AD to set this globally for everyone; I do it user by user when I set them up initially. Hope this helps.

There is a way to do this globally for Dispay Names in AD and for the GAL. It involves modifying attributes by using the ADSIEDIT.MSC Snap in. You will need to install the Windows support tools to access this MMC snap in. Then you will need to follow the steps in this link…

I could have outlined it myself, but I don’t have time.
