How are the IS-* Solution Integrated with SAP usual modules ( FI, MM, SD, CO )?

IS-* Solutions Integration SAP Modules, SAP modules

Hi,
I would like to know how is SAP integrating the IS industry solutions with the SAP standard modules such as MM, SD & FI. When you by IS-H as an example, is it mandatory to get also MM, FI &SD?? Master data such as Material, Customers or Vendors that are needed for MM, SD & FI, will have additional fields and transactions to handle them in the IS-* solution, how did SAP face this integration? Did they create additional tables and include a common key field such as Material number or vendor, or did they add Append Tables and fields to the existing master tables, and create or modified the existing programs to add the new fields for maintenance?
Transactional data such as Purchase Orders, might need to drill down to a level of detail that includes displaying data from the IS-* Master tables, how did SAP solved that? did they change the transactions to add the new fields or created new ones for the IS-* solution?

Thanks a lot
