An HMC (Hardware Management Console) Is a server that is connected to the I series via an HMC port. It is used for monitoring, managing, configuring the AS400. It is primarily used in situations where you will be running LPARs (Logical Partitions) which are individual instances of the iSeries OS (i5OS or AS400 operating system). These features are supported in V5R1 and above. The HMC allows you to easily manage which partitions control which pieces of hardware in your machine as well as memory and processor allocation among many other features.
