I would like to suggest the best standby, data Guard, or other High Availability solution to management. Specifically, I would like to compare Oracles Standby High availability solutions to Replistor -- I believe by EMC. Currently we have about 12 Windows based Oracle Servers, but the solution can include moving off of them, and also onto a SAN if best. Thank you.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

My experience is with old Symmetrix by EMC. It was a hardware copy between the microcode of the disk boxes.
The solution was reliable and fast, without disturbing the software.

I supose the new versions of EMC are based on same basis, meanwhile Oracle is a software solution, therefore using CPU resources.

I hope this comment might help.

Here is my current proposal to managment: Move our 3 production AIX servers to a 12 processor X86 blade server running LINUX, Oracle RAC, and Oracle 10G R2 when available. I have found in my testing that the newer X86 processors (AMD or Intel) can run double the work with half the processors of the UNIX servers. These test were run with several X86 based servers and IBM RS6000's and IBM P650's. The blade server allows you to use comodity hardware in a highly available configuration and Oracle 10G R2 ASM allows you to use comodity disk in a fully functional LVM configuration. Even if you decide to add some other LVM (such as Polyserve) this solution costs you much less than a UNIX solution and performs MUCH better.
