We had a trial period for a year where we were testing both MyOtherDrive and ElephantDrive and ended up using MyOtherDrive for the long haul. Elephant Drive was quite a bit slower when uploading our data. Its amazing how using the online backup has taken our workload and expense of tape swapping down.

I like the idea but I think people have trouble giving up that control…and justifying the bandwidth usage…and not having a tangible tape in hand when needed.

The most difficult part of the evaluation is finding a company that uses the email archiving piece, and asking them a few of our questions. I know Iron Mountain can provide us with some references, but we wanted to find our own first. But yeah, our information store is getting too big, and we need to archive anyways, so having someone else do it also saves in soft costs, which frees up administrators to do other things.
