Has anyone connected HP Laserjet 2035n to iSeries via TCP/IP?
Dozens of HP Laserjet printer are attached to our iSeries via TCP/IP. A few days ago we attached a new HP Laserjet 2035n using the same technique we've used many times in the past. It is giving us fits. After printine the first print job it hangs up for approximately five minutes, then prints some garbage. Has anyone experienced similar problems with a 2035n?

On the IBM web page regarding HP ASCII printers it is mentioned the the HP 2035n does not react consistantly to printing from iSeries. A suggestion is made to configure a Client Access printer session that would convert to ASCII on iSeries.

We have found that a number of the HP 2000 series models have an internal print server that acts like a not-fully-functional JetDirect. They work well enough with a PC, but won’t provide consistent performance from iSeries or Unix LPR or LAN attach. We stress to the user community that these models are made for Small Office/Home Office use and are not suitable for an enterprise network environment.
We found a solution . . . Typically we just create an output queue description to drive remote printers. In this case we discovered that we needed to create a DEVD with device type 3812. So far the printer is resonding well. It even handles electronic forms overlays without complaining.
Thanks for your suggestions. Sometime printing can be a bit of a mystery.
