How can I use fibre channel hard disk in SATA or IDE port?

Hello, the simple answer is you cannot. the disks are basically the same physically however the interface is different and communication protocal is different for IDE/SATA, basically your host CPU does most of the work on IDE/SATA and with SAS/FC drives the onboard SCSI controller does all the work, unless you can find a convertor (never heard of one available sorry) you would be better off leaving the idea to one side. the convertor would probably be more expensive than a new drive.

sorry not much good news off this!

Forget about it, its not going to happen. IDE drives are so cheap, just buy one of those and forget about the Fibre drive.

Agree with the other posters. This would be more of a project than anything, should you wish to proceed, and a non-economic one at that. Stick to your off the shelf IDE/SCSI. HOWEVER, if you would like to play around and have access to many FC drives (maybe your company is upgrading an chucking the old ones like mine did) then have a look at this site>> http://www.sca40.com/products.html You'll see it isn't exactly cheap when you consider the price of a BNIP IDE/SCSI drive, but you could possibly design your own interfacer if you are electronically minded. Good luck! Si (UK)

Hi i was wondering if anyone had the knowledge to help me with my issue of directly connecting a AD542B to a GL360 G5 server. Current Specs of Server are: AE312A FC HBA 8GB RAM Server 2008 R2 x64 3.2GHz xeon processor 500GB HDD. Installed within the AD542B i have: 2x AJ715A FC B AD624B FC A AD623B 2 x power supplies 1 X AD625B My issue is that i want to connect this device directly to the server so that i can test FC HDDs. I have no need for any functionality except to diagnose any issues within the HDDs installed within it. Any help would be glady appreciated. All drivers and firmware for the AE312A are up to date and i also have the Qlogic gui installed, but still cannot detect the disk array on my system.
