eMac with Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger crashes from sleep mode
I have an old (Bought in 2003) emac. (White desktop version) When I go to "About This Mac" it says: Version 10.4.11.(Upgraded to Tiger a few months ago).Processor: 1 GHz PowerPC G4. Memory: 256 MB SDRAM. When the computer goes to "sleep" and then I try to use it, it shuts down. When I start it back up, it will beep 4 times then blink the light 5 times, over and over again, screen shows nothing only black. Then I cannot turn off the machine except by unplugging it. After I turn it back on a few times this way, it will suddenly work! Baffling. I have also done "Command- Option- P-R" (reset the ram?) a couple of times. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't? Can anyone explain to me what is happening here? I don't know that much about computers but I'm not a total dummy either. Also, should I take it in to have the problem fixed by a professional? (if so roughly how much do you think that will cost?) or is this something I can do myself? Any help or advice or even just knowledge about ram and/ or what "Command- Option- P-R" actually does to the computer would be much appreciated. Thank YoU!

Answer Wiki:
Apple provides the Power On Self-Test Beep Definitions. The first thing you may wish to do, if you haven't already, if repair your permissions and verify/repair your hard drive with the Disk Utility. You might wish to check out AppleJack, too. It's a troubleshooting tool for Mac OS X.
