They are similar.

To maximize your chances of recovering the file you should not save anything to the disk before trying to recover the file.

Also, the chances are better when the hard disk has more free space.

If you decide to use any of these tools, I would recommend reading any readme or help file provided with the software carefully before trying the undelete process.
