I'm not aware of a Hadoop distribution that is compiled for the Power platform yet. As I understand it, IBM wants to make one available before the end of 2012. -- Tom

But how do we handle Big data on Iseries currently? I mean Big Insights don't work for OS/400 on Power system? I could only get for AIX.

First, your title said "AS400". Then your question said "iseries platform". And now you are changing it to ask about the OS -- "OS/400".OS/400 is nearly obsolete and will probably never run Hadoop. But the "iseries platform" (which is different from "OS/400") might run the IBM distribution of Hadoop functionality by the end of this year. I would expect it to run in Linux on iSeries first. But the answer to how to run it under OS/400 is probably that it never will. OS/400 is gone for everything new. OS/400 ended with V5R3. OS/400 doesn't even install on current System i systems.Tom

But System I will still refer to DB2/400 on Power system. Isnt? So i meant how db2/400 can be integrated with Hadoop framework on Power system. With Linux,Unix DB2 it can be done, and that i am aware of.

But System I will still refer to DB2/400 on Power system. Isnt?   No. It's been DB2 for IBM i (or simply DB2 for i) for a few years. In simple conversation, almost everyone knows what is meant by DB2/400, though.   However, in a specific technical conversation about how one product integrates or interacts with another, a specific name is needed when a version/release is not also specified. When someone asks about "Windows", do you think about "Windows 3.1 for Workgroups"?   So i meant how db2/400 can be integrated with Hadoop framework on Power system.   Install it all and configure it yourself. That is your only choice, and it won't be easy if you can make it work at all.   The current distributions are not appropriate for the AS/400 family. Until IBM releases a version that recognizes the IFS directory structure and other differences between AS/400s and Unix systems, it simply won't work.   Further, even after those changes are made, it's almost certain it will work badly until you know how to manage the JVM in a manner that fits Hadoop requirements. That is not a common skill in the vast majority of AS/400 sites.   For now, you are on your own. I expect that others are working on it.   If you can run Hadoop in a Linux or AIX partition, it might be reasonable to interact with 'DB2/400' through a network connection between partitions.   Tom
