Gmail recipients question

When someone sends you email (on Gmail account), and if you click on who he sent it to (let's say it was sent to 5 people), it opens the list of recipients, but for some it only says their mail (example: john.doe@gmail.com, and for some it has this form: John Doe . My question is what makes this difference. Is it because the sender has the John Doe with name included saved under contacts, or is it something else. I hope you understand what I wrote, English is not my primary language, so I apologize for mistakes. Thank you a lot!!

Yes, it comes from someone's contact file.

It depends on the sender of the e-mail. The sender might select addresses from an address book or might type addresses manually. If an address book was used, it depends on how the sender put the addresses in to it. And of course, it depends on what e-mail client the sender uses. I'm aware of one client that will not allow some RFC allowed formats for addresses. -- Tom
