On Gigabit switch keeps connecting and disconnecting with both gigabit nics.
Have tried another 2 pc at point and both connect at 1gb and work fine ( i.e. cable and switch are fine)
have tried pc with both nw cards at another working tested gb network point and same thing.
Reloaded xp and loaded latest drivers for both NIc's still will only work off an old 100mb switch

Move the PC so it is next to the switch, and just use a 3m or 5m patch cable. Gigabit will work fine on any 5m patch cable. Then you can eliminate the rest of the cabling and focus on the switch and PC.

If you have another PC, with gigabit, try that and confirm the switch is OK. As the first answer said, check the switch config, and make sure it is capable and set to use 1000baseT.

If all that works, then the driver is at fault, or the new card is not set up correctly, or is possibly faulty.

Take it back to where you got it and get them to test it, and show you that it works.

Good-Luck :-)

Don't forget to check the cabling - I heard rumors that gigabit could be run on cat5 in the range of 30 m, but scepticism takes over...
