Prepare the source image by installing and configuring the OS and application settings the way you want them. Run the sysprep utility and shutdown the computer. Then take an image of its hard drive with Ghost or another imaging utility. You can then deploy the image to target workstations.

you can use Hiren’s Boot cd for making ghost of your computer HDD. or u can download a ghost.exe setup which is a very little executable file. if you have any of one , restart your computer and simply boot ur system through cd and choose run the ghost batch file. you will see a template of symentic ghost , and follow the instruction and u will be able to make ghost of ur system.

Once sysprepped, you could use CloneZilla to make the backup. It has a few different methods available to use for backing it up.
