Getting USGs properly added to the GAL
We have a root/child domain structure. Our root domain was in Native Mode and we had started to create USGs in that domain to use for Public Folder permissions and email lists, but stopped when we realixed users in the child domain could not manage the lists via Outlook as they had done in the past. We have now taken our main domain (the child) native and I am trying to blow away the USGs in the root and recreate them in the child. The new USG will show up in the GAL, but it seems like it takes forever for the old smtp address to be released from the deleted group, so the new group gets an iterated address (USG1@brwncald.com). If I force the address change, it will stay, but when Recipient policy is applied it adds the other smtp address back in. The USG will display in the GAL, but Exchange cannot send mail to it. I need to understand how the changes made in AD are applied to the GAL. I have more of these to do and I can't have entire office unable to receive email for days while I figure it out. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Answer Wiki:
How far apart (geographically) are these two domains? I'm thinking it could be because of AD replication delay. Probably its taking time to reflect the changes across the forest. Can you try this after a force replication. You can do this thru "Active Directory Sites & Services". Regards, aknair
