Gateway laptop 600YG2 problems with padlock

I have quite a few laptop users with a Gateway 600YG2 laptop. Some, but not all of the laptops have a problem when logging into Windows XP having to turn off the padlock feature to recognize the keys properly. On all of the laptops, Windows XP and our company software were installed via Ghost image by corporate office. This is a nuisance problem since any user needs to know to turn off padlock in order to log in with correct password/user name. I'm thinking that this is a problem with the image, but not sure if this could be a problem with model. Just started job so haven't had chance to test yet. Anyone using this model laptop with padlock problems?

For Windows XP, ghost is only good for backup. Not
like before cause there are log of key generate to
identify each work station on the network. Duplicate key will cause tons of other problem. Deploy winxp using the system preparation tool from MS

I disagree with the Ghost comment, I use Ghost images all the time at my work and as long as a fresh PC is used first and properly syspreped you should have no problems with a image on a PC, it's like a brand new PC. For your problem if I understand properly is get a program from Systernals called NEWSID, its freeware that will change the SID and also rename every instance of the PC, giving it a new ID on the network. Programs freeware too.

disjoing and regoin the computer (laptop) from to the domain that will elevate duplicate SIDs as they will be assigned a new RID the last 5 digits of the SID which will make them unique on the network
