In a former life we had a Zebra attached to our AS/400, when it was still called an AS/400. We just defined the Zebra as a character printer, such as an Epson 850. From that point on we treated it as a printer. In this config, it was not necessary to FTP the print file, which made our job a lot easier.

In my current life we have several DataMax bar code printers attached to our System i via TCP/IP. Again, we just configure as a character printer and let the operating system manage sending the spool file.

The key seems to be configuring the printer as a character printer.

I just configured the zebra printers (tlp2844 and tlp2844z) as generic text only printers when installing. When you write from 400(or whatever yours is called) there is then no conversion and the printer language if being used (ZPL) will be interpreted correctly, or the text written will print as written. Printer can be configured attatched to pc via usb.
