 FTP problem on my system
Erik wrote in with this question recently: I am trying to FTP a friend in Chicago. He can FTP me but I can not reach his computer, but his friends can reach his computer. I am thinking the problem lies with my system. I am running XP Professional. In the Internet Properties Advanced tab, I have checked among many things, Enable Folder View for FTP sites, and I have unchecked and rechecked the Passive FTP box. I keep getting the same error when attempting to contact: FTP Folder Error an error occurred opening that folder on the FTP server. Make sure you have permission to access that folder. Details: A connection with the server could not be established. And then under that error message, is the flashlight searching for files, and folders. -- Debra Tart, associate editor, Search400.com

Answer Wiki:
Erik, it certainly sounds like you don't have permission to that folder and that's a security setup on their side. They need to give your loginID full access to the folder. Sometimes, there is firewall security as well and that is also a setup on their side.

I’m not sure what this has to do with “AS/400″, but there is at least one item that’s really missing from the question — what ftp client is being used? Windows http://ftp.exe from a command line? Internet Explorer ftp:? FileZilla? Other?
