Answer Wiki:
You didn't mention what version of Exchange, nevertheless free/busy info is local to the Exchange environment either through public folders in Exchange 2003 or the CAS server in Exchange 2007. This is not shared across different domains. Users have to all be on the same domain to view this info. This is Exchange working as designed.

Are the domains both trusted to each other? Are they the same version of Exchange? What are the Exchange versions?

When user attempts to retrieve Free/Busy information in another domain, Outlook and Exchange work through following process….
1. Outlook connect to Availability service to retrieve FreeBusy information. Outlook locate Availability service URL through Autodiscover and Exchange locates the Availability service in another domain through Autodiscover and the last one is Exchange Server Proxy requests to another domain’s Availability service to gather Free/Busy information. OKAY !
To overcome this problem please Check out this….
Is the domain is able to connect to Autodiscover service in another domain to locate Availability service URL! and second is ensure that, Exchange Server in domain need to trust the certificate provided by Exchange Server in another domain.
