 Forwarding E-mail From a Disabled/Deleted User Account
We have an Exchange 2000/AD environment. If a user account is disabled in AD will mail forwarding set on the server still function? If a user account and mailbox are deleted can I just reassign the deleted user e-mail address to someone else as an alias so they can receive the mail intended for the deleted user?

Yes to both questions. We do this all the time in our 2003 environment, and I'm quite certain that this functionality is also in 2000.

when users go away in our AD, we create a distro group, assign the user’s email to the group, add a supervisor as a member, then delete the original account after archiving old user data.
